Slime, Gak, Putty- whatever you call it it’s a tonne of fun for all ages. I wanted to come up with something fun this Halloween and found SLIME. So today I want to share with you my super cool recipe for homemade glow in the dark slime.
I was a kid of the 90’s. I grew up with Sega Mega Drive, Polly Pockets and Troll Dolls. And one toy that I loved was Gak. It’s a moulding compound a bit like play dough but more like slime. And it used to make a silly fart noise when you pushed it back into the container. You loved weird things like that as a kid. So when I found the recipe on Pinterest I knew it would be something cool to make this Halloween.
Homemade Glow in the Dark Slime Recipe
~Makes about 2 cups~
- 250ml White Craft Glue (about 8oz)
- 4 tablespoons Glow in the Dark Paint
- 250ml Water
- Neon food colouring/paint
- 1 teaspoon borax
- 1/2 cup warm water
Step one: Pour the glue into a bowl. Then add the same amount of water to the glue and mix with a spoon.
Step two: Add food colouring to the glue. I couldn’t find neon food colouring so I used a non-toxic paint and added food colouring for a deeper colour but the choice is yours.
Step three: Stir the glow in the dark paint into your glue mixture.
Step four: In a small bowl mix 1/2 cup of warm water with 1 teaspoon of Borax and stir until dissolved.
Step five: Mix the borax water and glue mixture together with a spoon. As you can see from the picture this ends up becoming quite difficult. Once this happens switch to using your hands and don’t be afraid to get messy.
This is where the magic happens. The borax reacts with the glue mixture and starts to turn it into the slime and I found the more you work the mixture the better it gets. I needed to add a bit of water but what you do will depend if you want it to be runnier or more solid. Play around with the amount of Borax and Water until you get the desired consistency. Don’t forget to test it out in the dark… it looks very cool!
If you have kids this will keep them entertained for hours (even get them to help you make it) but I think Glow in the Dark Slime would be perfect as a party decoration or favour for a Monsters, Alien or Halloween Party.
